KeymasterYeah, I thought I’d share this short clip from the dashcam. This was part of my drive in yesterday.

ParticipantHA! Lucky it wasn’t Ponch and John, because they were the best there ever was and never let anyone get away ever.

KeymasterYeah, but I wasn’t a bank robber hiding a score, or a awkwardly young teen girl with feathered hair locked in my trunk, so they’d have left me to the no-name patrolmen anyway. 😀
Really though, they were just looking for “distracted drivers”, since it’s illegal to use electronics (not just the phone) in your car in Austin. They have the law, but there are still just as many people doing it as anywhere else, so once in a while they go on these revenue drives and camp out to pull everyone over.
Strangely, I saw these weird police trucks a few days before that. They were marked up with “Commercial Traffic Enforcement” or something similar, and were yanking big trucks off the road. I guess we just have big budget for cops here, and they need some shit to do.

ParticipantIt’s not just phones which are illegal to use in cars but ALL electronics? So you can’t even play your GameBoy while driving? Man, Austin really seems like a stone age town if you ask me.

ParticipantThat was awesome. I can’t wait to finish getting better so I can get my car. Then there will be videos. Videos of things.
I was actually thinking the other day – it would be a huge shame if I beat this amazingly shitty disease and then die in a stupid car wreck. I’m gonna need to really be careful, because I have the feeling I’m going to be driving really fast. A lot.

ParticipantThey really should have had you three take over Top Gear when Clarkson punched that producer and got fired. I mean, Matt LeBlanc is pretty charming and all, but he’s not Bryan, Robby and Jerry charming.

Speaking of, I’m curious to see how the former Top Gear hosts fare on their new series, The Grand Tour, which is totally not at all the same thing.

Yeah, I doubt they messed with their winning forumula too much. It looks like a ton of the usual road-trip fun from them in the trailers.

I like their road-trip type videos, but I’ve always loved the regular review type videos. It gives a nice overview of whatever genre of car they’re covering, which is nice and shit.

ParticipantI’m not 100% sure what the Grand Tour is going to be, but they do seem to be doing some “studio” segments (in tents) as part of it, so maybe they’ll still do reviews along the way. As far as I can tell there’s nothing stopping them finding a nice stretch of tarmac in whatever area they’re in to put a fancy new automobile through its paces.

quick > fast
I really don’t like going over 80MPH in most circumstances. I like to get there as fast as I can. –or with as much noise and smoke as I can.
The stupids out in the world can and will always ruin stuff, but at high-speed it rarely has a decent outcome.

KeymasterI still haven’t watched the new show they have, nor was I even aware that Matt LeBlanc took over (wha??????). I sort of just wrote that show off when the dust settled. I need to catch up on the new show.
I switched to watching more car-cool shows with less good people. I liked watching all of the old Episodes of Roadkill.

ParticipantThe new show’s not out yet Captain, it has a release date of 18 Nov. All blatherings up to this point are mere speculationism on my part.

ParticipantBryan, yeah, that’s what I meant. I’m not crazy about going faster than 80 that much either. It really depends on what I end up getting, but I know that whatever it is, I’m going to need to be careful and learn the limits before I really start going nuts.

KeymasterOh for sure! I’d say I really wasn’t there with this Challenger when I was up there last year. I had lots of break in time, and after that I really hadn’t even had many people in at once.
I’m saying: riding it in now is a totally different experience. That video was just normal daily half pedal acceleration. I need to make a proper video soon.
